About these Terms

These Terms of Service ('Terms') govern your use of StepMatches, a mobile application that helps adult social dancers find practice partners and discover local dance events. By creating an account or otherwise using StepMatches you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use StepMatches. StepMatches is operated by the StepMatches team based in Sofia, Bulgaria. References to 'we', 'us', or 'StepMatches' mean the operator of the application.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use StepMatches. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide is accurate and belongs to you. If we learn that an account is held by someone under 18, we will close it. You may hold only one StepMatches account at a time. Accounts are personal — you may not transfer your account to anyone else. You agree to use StepMatches only if it is legal for you to do so where you live.

Your account

You are responsible for your account, your password, and everything that happens through it. Keep your sign-in details secret. If you suspect someone else has access to your account, change your password and contact us. We may suspend, restrict, or close an account if we believe these Terms or the Community Code have been broken, or to protect the safety of other dancers.

License to use StepMatches

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use StepMatches on devices you own or control, solely for the personal, non-commercial purpose of finding dance partners and dance events. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell, or build a competing service from StepMatches, our software, or our content.

How matches work

StepMatches shows you profiles of other dancers based on the styles, vibe, role, and intentions you and they have set. A 'match' is created when two dancers indicate mutual interest. A match opens a chat between you. StepMatches does not guarantee that any match will result in a meeting, a friendship, a class, or any other outcome. You meet other dancers entirely at your own risk. We do not run criminal background checks, and a verified badge on a profile means only what is described in the verification section — it is not a safety guarantee.

Your content

Photos, videos, bio text, messages, and other things you post on StepMatches are your content. You keep ownership of your content. By posting it on StepMatches you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display, and make it available within StepMatches to the people you choose to share it with, and to make backups. This license ends when you delete the content, except where we need to keep a copy for legal reasons, dispute resolution, or backups awaiting routine deletion. You promise that your photos and videos are of you, that you have the right to post anything you post, and that your content does not break any law or violate anyone's rights. We may remove content that breaks these Terms, the Community Code, or applicable law.

What you may not do on StepMatches

You agree not to: use StepMatches if you are under 18 or pretend to be someone else; harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate, or send unwanted sexual content to any other user; post hateful, discriminatory, violent, or sexually explicit content; use StepMatches to recruit for businesses, sell services, run promotions, or scam people; solicit minors, escort services, or any sexual services; share private information about anyone in a way that could endanger them; use bots, scrapers, or automated tools against StepMatches; or attempt to break the security of StepMatches or other users' accounts. Breaking these rules can lead to warnings, content removal, suspension, account termination, and where required, reporting to authorities.

Verification

StepMatches offers optional verification methods. A verified badge means we received some form of identity check (for example, a photo of a government ID reviewed by our team, or a host's in-person confirmation at a partnered event). It does not mean we have run a background check. It does not certify that someone is a good dance partner or a safe person to meet. Treat it as a small additional signal, not a guarantee. If you submit an ID for verification you confirm that the ID belongs to you. We store ID images solely to perform the check and to handle disputes, and we delete them per the schedule in our Privacy Policy.

Safety in the real world

StepMatches helps people connect online and meet in the physical world to dance. Meeting strangers carries risk. We strongly recommend: meet in public for the first time; tell a trusted person where you are going; do not share your home address, financial details, or sensitive personal information until you have met and built trust; trust your gut. You are responsible for your own safety.

Reports, blocks, and our response

You can report users and content that break these Terms or the Community Code. We review reports as quickly as we reasonably can. Depending on what we find, we may warn the reported user, remove content, suspend or close the account, and in serious cases, contact authorities. Blocking another user hides their profile from you and yours from them and stops them from messaging you.

Termination

You may stop using StepMatches and delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion removes your profile and content from StepMatches on the schedule set out in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you break these Terms, the Community Code, or the law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — intellectual property, content license already granted, disclaimers, limits of liability, indemnity, dispute resolution — survive.

Disclaimers and limits of liability

StepMatches is provided 'as is' and 'as available'. To the extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that StepMatches will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any particular match, meeting, or experience will occur. To the extent permitted by law, in no event will StepMatches, its operators, or its affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or opportunity. Our total liability to you for any claim related to StepMatches is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim and (b) one hundred euros. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Bulgarian or EU law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StepMatches and its team from claims, damages, costs, and expenses arising out of your use of StepMatches, your content, your interactions with other dancers, or your breach of these Terms.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Bulgaria, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection laws of the country where you live. Disputes will be brought in the competent courts of Sofia, Bulgaria, except where consumer-protection law allows you to bring proceedings in your country of residence.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make changes that materially affect your rights, we will notify you inside the app and, where the change is significant, ask you to re-accept before you continue using StepMatches. The 'Last updated' date at the top shows when the current version took effect.
